Stop Looking For Someone To Lead Your Vision

I am a dreamer. I think about events, social gatherings, and how to achieve them, and yet, they hardly ever come to pass. Why? Because I'm hoping someone else will have the same vision and lead instead of me.

By the way, it's not bad to want to take a backseat to events especially when you're always the one to lead, but what if you can't ever see yourself retiring from taking the lead?
But this post is not about that, and I'll write about it another time.
This post is for the person who's a dreamer but has no motivation to lead.
I think it's very easy for us think, "someone else will do that." But we've also been saying that for months or years.
I know events take a lot of planning, organizing, delegating, decorating and then actually making the event come alive.
But what if, you are one of the few that sees the vision, the potential, and desperately want others to see it, too?
I've come to accept, and am still learning, that I have this desire. I'm naturally an introvert, but the idea of having to plan, orgainze, and decorate for an event is extremely euphoric for me. Yes, I'm a little more tired than usual, things don't go according to plan, but as the last piece of decorations go up, and the food is ready, it's a excitement I can't explain unless you love to lead events like this.
I can spot potential even in places that might not seem great at first. I imagine how awesome celebrations could be there. But if I don't do something about it or get others on board with my vision, it won't come to life. Plus, there could be other big hurdles like money or finding the right venue.
Which is heartbreaking at times.
Here are three things I've learned over the years:
Write down every. single. event. you're dreaming
You might not be able to make all your dreams come true, but there are definitely a few you can nail. Sometimes, it just takes getting a bunch of folks together to help out. Depending on where you're at, some things might click better than others. Big or small, jot those dreams down!
Collect items for events on FB Marketplace and thrift stores
Don't fall for the misconception that you have to buy items new. People regularly sell their barely used event items on FB Marketplace or drop it off at thrift stores. You can zhuzh it up or tweak it in some other way. I can't tell you amount of times I've bought items second-hand for events. Also, many people give away items that are still in its original package.
Let people be a blessing
As dreamers, we've got a clear vision in mind, and usually, we don't want to stray from it. But hey, we need to stay flexible. (I get it, it really depends on the event.) Most of the time, though, there IS something someone can do to lend a hand. Whether it's bringing a dish, helping with decorations, dealing with parking, creating and sending invites, assisting with games, or pitching in during the event. I've learned to say, "Thanks for offering to help. Let me check and see what needs to be done." This way, you acknowledge their willingness to help and give yourself a moment to figure out what needs attention. Before, I was like a deer in headlights, scrambling for an answer. Let people be a blessing.
I hope this helps fellow dreamers out there.
Best,
